The number of mobile cyberthreat detections in Bangladesh rose 108 percent year-on-year to 1,859 in the first quarter of 2026, according to cybersecurity company Kaspersky.
The increase was part of a broader rise in mobile threats across the Asia-Pacific region. Across eight countries studied by Kaspersky, the average number of mobile threat detections per affected user increased 49 percent year-on-year in the first quarter, from 4.9 to 7.3.
Kaspersky said the increase occurred across all eight markets even though the overall number of users encountering mobile threats declined. It said the trend indicated that individual users were facing threats more frequently.
Thailand recorded the sharpest increase in detections in Southeast Asia, with the number more than doubling to 2,494. At the same time, the number of affected users declined, causing detections per affected user to rise from 3.0 to 11.9.
Sri Lanka recorded 922 detections, a 132 percent increase from the same period a year earlier. Detections per affected user rose from 5.5 to 17.4.
In the Philippines, detections increased 28 percent to 2,011. China recorded 6,797 detections, nearly twice the figure from the first quarter of 2025. China and Bangladesh were the only two markets among the eight where both the number of detections and affected users increased, as per Kaspersky.
India and Indonesia recorded the highest numbers of detections in the region, with 18,187 and 15,163 respectively.
Kaspersky researchers said mobile scams are increasingly relying on fake promotions, phishing pages, malicious advertisements, fraudulent surveys and other social-engineering techniques to obtain users' credentials and personal information. Compromised messaging accounts are also being used to distribute links that appear to have been sent by trusted contacts.
Credentials for messaging platforms and government service portals are among the information targeted by attackers.
Kaspersky said some attacks were becoming more difficult to detect because they require little or no interaction from users and can involve multiple stages. Malware including Rewardsteal and Thamera remained active in India, while artificial intelligence was also being used to make scams more convincing through AI-generated messages, cloned voices and deepfake content.
