Five people have been arrested in connection with the killing of 80-year-old Bobi Begum, who was brutally assaulted and robbed at Methikanda Railway Station in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi.
The arrests were made during overnight raids conducted by a joint team of the Detective Branch (DB) of police, Railway Police and the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at different locations in Narsingdi and Brahmanbaria last night, said Rab-11's Narsingdi Camp Company Commander, Additional Superintendent of Police Ariful Islam.

The briefing will be addressed by Lt Col Mohammad Masud Parvez, commanding officer of Rab-11. Ariful Islam declined to reveal the identities of the arrestees before the briefing.
According to police and local sources, a group of assailants broke into Bobi Begum's room at Methikanda Railway Station at around 2:00am on July 5, 2026, and demanded the money she had saved over the years.
When she refused to hand over the cash, they allegedly beat her mercilessly before fleeing with around Tk 40,000 hidden inside the room.
Locals rescued the critically injured woman and admitted her to Raipura Upazila Health Complex. As her condition deteriorated, she was being taken to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital early on July 8, 2026, but died on the way.
Following an autopsy, her body was taken back to Methikanda Railway Station on Wednesday evening. She was later buried at a community graveyard adjacent to the station after funeral prayers.
Raipura Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Masud Rana, Officer-in-Charge of Raipura Police Station Mujibur Rahman, the station master of Methikanda Railway Station and local residents attended the funeral.
The incident triggered widespread outrage in the area, with residents demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible, a fair investigation and exemplary punishment.
The assault also drew widespread attention on social media, prompting the local administration, police, political leaders and voluntary organisations to extend support for the victim's treatment and other assistance.
Raipura Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Masud Rana said the administration filed a case with Raipura Police Station on the night of July 6, 2026.
