Fifty candidates were arrested for cheating in the written examination on Friday for the post of assistant sub-food inspector of the Directorate General of Food in Dhaka, by using electronic devices in their ears.

Among the arrested, 22 were arrested at the gate while entering at the examination centre at Dhaka College and 28 were held from the examination hall.

The authorities of the examination centre caught the 28 job seekers red-handed from different rooms with the tiny earpieces and handed them over to the police.

About the tiny earpieces, the police said that those hidden devices were used to cheat in the exam through receiving audio from outside.

New Market police station officer-in-charge Mohammad Ayub said that executive magistrate Md Sharifullah sentenced the 22 job seekers from two to four days in prison after the small electronic devices were deleted from them at the gate.

They were sent to jail following the order, said the official, adding that such digital devices were also recovered from 28 more job seekers in the examination hall.

‘We have sent the 28 arrested to the court for summary trial,’ said Ayub.
