Zakir's 3-yr contractual appointment cancelled
FE REPORT | July 07, 2026 00:00:00
The government has replaced Bangladesh Bank (BB) Deputy Governor Zakir Hossain Chowdhury with BB Executive Director Md Anis Ur Rahman.
Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division (FID) under the Ministry of Finance Nazma Mubarak confirmed the reshuffle in the top hierarchy of the central bank on Monday.
"We have cancelled the contractual appointment of Zakir Hossain Chowdhury and appointed Md Anis Ur Rahman as the deputy governor," she told The Financial Express.
However, she did not disclose the reasons behind the cancellation of Mr Zakir's contract before expiry.
Earlier on September 8, 2024, Mr Zakir, along with Dr Md Kabir Ahmed, was appointed as the deputy governor of the banking regulator for a three-year period.
Md Anis has been appointed on a contractual basis for a period of three years, subject to voluntary retirement from his current post and the suspension of his post-retirement leave (PRL).
His tenure as the deputy governor will commence from the date he assumes office, while the terms and conditions of his appointment will be specified through an agreement.
