India’s Border Security Force backtracked on its move to construct a one-kilometre road on Thursday afternoon along border in Khalishkothal area under Fulbari upazila in Kurigram.

Local people and BGB officials said that BGB went to the spot and found the BSF constructing a road at about 2:00pm on Thursday.


A BGB-BSF flag meeting was held in the Khalishkothal border where BGB-15 Battalion camp commander Subader Abu Taher was present, said BGB officials.

There was a connecting road in Karla area under Shahebganj Thana in Cooch Behar district in West Bengal of India and the road was 100-120 yards away from the Bangladesh border, said BGB officials and local people.

They said that a pukka road had been being constructed in the east side of the road at night for the past few days under the supervision of the BSF.

BGB Balarhat camp commander Subader Abu Taher said that they had held a flag meeting with the BSF.

‘The BSF removed their road construction materials after sensing the BGB’s presence,’ he added.

Lalmonirhat BGB-15 Battalion commander Subader Naresh Chandra Roy said that the BSF was doing earth filing for constructing the road.

‘We went to the spot immediately after hearing the news and obstructed the construction,’ he added.

Bangladesh and India share a 4,096-kilometre international border, the fifth-longest land border in the world, comprising 262km with the Indian state of Assam, 856km with Tripura, 318km with Mizoram, 443km with Meghalaya, and 2,217km with West Bengal.
