Three more people with measles symptoms have died across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, including two in Sylhet Division and one in the Mymensingh Division.

During the same period, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) confirmed 201 new measles cases.

According to the DGHS daily bulletin released on Friday, 201 people tested positive for measles in the 24 hours from 8am on Thursday. The health authority has been publishing measles data since Mar 15.

So far, 96 people have died of confirmed cases of measles, while another 767 people have died after developing symptoms consistent with the disease.

The Dhaka Division has recorded the highest number of deaths among patients with measles symptoms, at 334. It is followed by Sylhet with 119 deaths, Rajshahi with 91, Mymensingh with 72, Chattogram with 61, Barishal with 45, Khulna with 32, and Rangpur with 13.

The DGHS also said that 1,017 people with measles symptoms sought treatment at hospitals across the country over the past 24 hours, of whom 943 were admitted.

Of those admitted, 316 were in the Dhaka Division, 243 in Chattogram, 125 in Barishal, 93 in Sylhet, 62 in Mymensingh, 56 in Khulna, 33 in Rajshahi, and 15 in Rangpur.

The total number of patients admitted to hospitals with measles has now reached 116,822 nationwide, of whom 112,525 have been discharged.

The number of suspected measles cases across the country has risen to 134,655, while the total number of laboratory-confirmed measles cases now stands at 16,941.
