The police said on Saturday that Asadul, alias Lambu Asadul, was murdered by acquaintances in the capital’s Mohammadpur area on April 16 over previous enmity and a financial dispute.

They said that the police and the Rapid Action Battalion arrested six suspects in the case, and a Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court granted a four-day remand for interrogating them.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner for Mohammadpur Division, Md Ibne Mizan, at a press conference at the DMP Media Centre in the capital, said that the police arrested four suspects, Akhtar Hossain, 45, Md Munna, 24, Miraj Fakir, 22, and Md Nayan alias Khokon, 24, at Keraniganj, on the outskirts of the capital, on Friday.

All the detainees are wanted in several cases, he said.

He added that, based on information obtained from the arrestees, the police seized a motorcycle and a switchblade knife used in the murder.

He said that detainee Akhtar had earlier filed a case against the victim, Asadul, who was arrested in that case and released from jail a few days ago. Besides, they had a dispute over financial issues.

DC Mizan said that Akhtar, with the help of his associates, called Asadul early on April 16 and killed him by stabbing him and hitting him with a brick.

Following the murder, the victim’s cousin, Anju Akter, filed a case with Mohammadpur police station.

Apart from the four arrested, police have identified several others involved in the murder, Mizan said, adding that drives were underway to arrest them.

Meanwhile, Rapid Action Battalion-2 on Friday arrested two more suspects, Asadul Islam, 20, and Md Shawon, 28, at Mohammadpur’s Metro Housing in connection with the murder and handed them over to the police.
