Actor and investor Ashton Kutcher is leaving Sound Ventures, the venture capital firm he co-founded with Guy Oseary, to establish a new investment firm with venture capitalist Morgan Beller, according to a recent report by The Wall Street Journal.

According to the report, the new firm, which has not yet been publicly named, will focus on early-stage investments. Beller most recently served as a general partner at NFX, a seed-stage venture capital firm, and previously worked on Meta's Libra cryptocurrency project. She was also a partner at Andreessen Horowitz for nearly three years.

As per the report, the decision does not reflect difficulties at Sound Ventures, which has invested in companies including Brex, Gusto, OpenAI, Anthropic and World Labs. Instead, Kutcher's departure is said to reflect differing views over investment strategy, with Sound Ventures increasingly focusing on more established companies while Kutcher favoured investing in earlier-stage start-ups.

The new firm is expected to target companies developing AI infrastructure, energy technologies and deep tech startups, sectors that underpin advances in AI and are often based on engineering and scientific innovation.

Despite his departure, Kutcher will continue to serve as an adviser to Sound Ventures. According to WSJ, Guy Oseary and Sound Ventures general partner Effie Epstein will also advise Kutcher and Beller's new investment firm.
