The police have arrested seven people in connection with a clash and vandalism centring on local dominance in the remote Char Balaki village of Gazaria upazila in Munshiganj.

A group of Juba League activists supporting a BNP faction allegedly attacked rivals over local dominance in Gazaria on Monday, leaving at least three people injured, while a local BNP office and several houses were vandalised.
Witnesses said that a dispute had been continuing since the 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections between supporters of Musa, who backed BNP-nominated candidate Quamruzzaman Ratan, now lawmaker for Munshiganj-3, and supporters of Shahor Ali, a follower of independent candidate and BNP leader Md Mohiuddin.
The violence erupted after Musa and Shahor Ali became involved in an altercation near a local Eidgah on Monday afternoon.
Soon afterwards, supporters of Gazaria upazila Jubo League leader Nazmul Islam, also a supporter of Shahor Ali, and supporters of Jubo Dal leader Anwar Hossain Pradhan, a follower of Musa, engaged in counter-chases that escalated into clashes.
At one stage, the BNP offices of wards 8 and 9 under Hosendi union and at least 10 houses were vandalised allegedly by followers of Nazmul Islam.
