Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s local leader died in Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital on Saturday afternoon after being hit with a bullet on Thursday.
Hasan Mollah, 42, general secretary of the BNP’s Hazratpur union unit, was shot in the stomach by unidentified miscreants while on a motorcycle at about 9:00pm.
The victim’s elder brother Rakib Hossain Mollah said that his brother breathed his last at about 3:15pm on Saturday.
‘We shifted him to the Holy Family hospital ICU on Friday afternoon. My brother’s body is now at the hospital,’ he said, adding that they could not file any case as they were busy with his treatment.
According to the family, Hasan was shot by two helmet-wearing miscreants on a motorcycle while he was on his way home and sustained bullet injury in the right side of his stomach.
The police said that they were investigating into the incident with utmost priority but denied to disclose more for the sake of investigation.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a statement on Friday condemned the heinous and barbaric attack on the Keraniganj BNP leader.
He said that the attack was an attempt to foil the forthcoming general elections and restrain the democratic progress, which the countrymen would not accept.
