The fifth instalment of the “Kakababu” film franchise has been announced under a new title — “Bhoyongkor Sundor” — with production now underway and a theatrical release targeted for 2027.
The beloved adventure character Kakababu, created by eminent Bengali novelist Sunil Gangopadhyay, will once again return to the big screen.

Popular Indian actor Prosenjit Chatterjee is set to reprise his role as Raja Roy Chowdhury, better known as Kakababu.
Producers say the new chapter will heighten the franchise’s trademark blend of adventure, mystery and suspense. The title, which loosely translates to “Beautiful and Deadly”, hints at a story where beauty conceals darker secrets.

The film will be set in Kashmir, against a backdrop of snow-covered mountains, blue lakes and sweeping valleys — terrain that promises both visual spectacle and hidden intrigue.
Pre-production has already begun. The decision to fast-track the new instalment follows the commercial and audience success of the fourth film, Bijoynagarer Hire, which was released in January.

This time, the film will be directed by Chandrasish Ray, a younger filmmaker expected to bring a new visual language and pace to the long-running series. While Prosenjit’s return is confirmed, casting for Santu and other key roles has yet to be officially announced.
Recently conferred with India’s Padma Shri, Prosenjit described his return to the role as emotional. “Kakababu is not merely a detective character; he represents an adventurous dream woven into Bengali childhood and adolescence. Each instalment feels like a tribute to Sunil Gangopadhyay,” he said.
