Former Bangladesh women's team captain Jahanara Alam has submitted her written statement to the Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) inquiry committee, marking the latest development in her sexual harassment allegations against former team officials.
According to a press release issued on Thursday by Jahanara's legal team -- comprising Saqeb Mahbub, Rifat Rahman, and Tasmiah Zaman Priyanti from Mahbub and Company -- she submitted the statement on December 4, having earlier sought additional time to respond. The committee was initially tasked with submitting its findings within 15 days, a deadline that expired last month. Following Jahanara's request, the inquiry committee was granted an extension until December 20 to report its findings.
A member of the five-member inquiry committee confirmed to The Daily Star that they had indeed received the written submission.
The press release added that the contents of her submission would not be made public "owing to the sensitive and confidential nature of the allegations."
Jahanara, 32, is currently on a break from cricket citing mental health reasons and is living in Australia. On November 6, she made detailed allegations on a YouTube channel, accusing former women's team manager and selector Manjurul Islam and the late Towhid Mahmud, former in-charge of the BCB's women's department, of sexually harassing her within the national team setup and making indecent approaches.
Just days earlier, she had spoken to a national daily about issues of grouping, favouritism, and abusive behaviour within the women's team, though her subsequent claims were significantly more serious.
Jahanara also said she had provided a comprehensive written account of the alleged harassment to BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury in 2022, but no steps were taken.
On November 8, the BCB formed a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the allegations raised by the former captain which was later expanded to five members.
