Some owners of Samsung's Galaxy S25 Ultra and Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones have reported overheating, unusually fast battery drain and slower charging speeds after installing the company's July software update, according to media reports and user posts on online forums.

Technology publication Android Police, citing reports shared by users on Reddit, said the complaints emerged after Samsung rolled out its July software update to the two flagship devices. Users said the problems have affected everyday use, with some reporting increased device temperatures, reduced battery life and slower-than-usual charging performance.

Some users have suggested the update may interfere with WhatsApp's encrypted backup process, causing the application to consume additional system resources and generate excess heat. Others said disabling encrypted backups appeared to reduce overheating, although there is no official confirmation that the messaging app is responsible.

The reports appear to be based largely on user experiences shared online, and it remains unclear how widespread the issues are. Not all Galaxy S25 Ultra and S24 Ultra users have reported experiencing the same problems following the update.

Software updates occasionally introduce unexpected bugs despite undergoing testing before release. Users experiencing overheating or excessive battery drain may need to wait for an official software update if Samsung confirms the issue and releases a fix.
