A prosecution witness in a crimes against humanity case told the International Crimes Tribunal today that he had taken a photograph with a man sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of writer-blogger Avijit Roy, and posted it on Facebook after the convict was released on bail.
Md Masrur Anwar Chowdhury, who described himself as a victim of enforced disappearance, made the statement during cross-examination in response to questions from defence counsel Aminul Ghani Titto.
Masrur rejected claims that he was a member of the banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), saying the allegation was “not true”.
He was testifying as a prosecution witness in a case over enforced disappearance linked to a Task Force for Interrogation (TFI) cell, allegedly operated under the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab).
He had earlier testified before the tribunal yesterday, saying that he was disappeared on March 1, 2020.
The case involves 17 accused, including 10 military officials currently held in a sub-jail. All were present before the tribunal during today’s proceedings.
During cross-examination, Masrur also denied allegations that he had posted a Facebook photograph with Al-Amin, an accused in a bomb explosion case at a Keraniganj madrasa on December 29, 2025.
