Tariqul Islam

































The seventh anniversary of the death of former minister Tariqul Islam, also a former standing committee member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, will be observed today.

The BNP has chalked out elaborate programmes in Jashore and elsewhere to mark the day.


The Jashore unit of the party, as part of their seven-day programmes to mark the day, will offer prayers at the grave of the late leader in the district town and hold prayer sessions in Jashore and all the upazilas of the district.

He died in Dhaka on November 4, 2018 and was buried in Karbala Graveyard in Jashore the next day.

Born in Jashore town on November 16, 1946, Tariqul started politics as an activist of Chhatra Union while he was a student, and was elected MM College unit general secretary of the student organisation in 1963-64 session.

The seasoned politician engaged in politics as a follower of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani.

He joined the BNP in 1978 after the party’s inception in the same year by late president Ziaur Rahman.

Tariqul held various important portfolios of BNP, including its vice-chairman and joint secretary general.

He became a member of the national standing committee of the BNP in 2009.

His wife Nargis Begum is a former professor at Jashore Government City College and is now one of the vice-chairmen of the BNP.
