The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre on Thursday warned that flash floods might occur in seven districts in the northern and north-eastern regions over the next seven days.
The districts vulnerable to temporary inundation are Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Rangpur, Kurigram, Gaibandha, Jamalpur and Bogura.
In a special bulletin issued in the afternoon, the forecast said that heavy to very heavy rainfall might occur over the next seven days in the northern regions and their upstream areas.
Over the forecast period, rainfall could exceed the seasonal average by up to 200 millimetres, with some areas receiving as much as 400mm of rainfall.
The rivers that are likely to rise rapidly during the period are the Teesta, Dharla, Dudhkumar, Brahmaputra, Jamuna, Surma and Kushiyara.
The Brahmaputra may reach warning levels in Kurigram, Gaibandha, Jamalpur and Bogura from June 29, the forecast said.
In the 24 hours ending at 9:00am on Thursday, the FFWC said, water levels rose at 78 points.
Water levels are measured at 127 points across Bangladesh.
Over the same reporting period, Moulvibazar recorded 125mm of rainfall, the highest in the country, according to the FFWC.
At least six river stations reported water levels less than 50 centimetres below the danger mark.
