A woman was strangled to death allegedly by her husband following a family dispute in Dhaka's Shahjahanpur on Sunday afternoon.
The victim was identified as Swapna Khatun, 25, of Tilatia village in Phulpur upazila of Mymensingh, said police.
Her husband, Rubel Mia, is from Sankipara in Mymensingh Sadar, said Shahjahanpur Police Station Officer‑in‑Charge Amirul Islam.
Police recovered Swapna’s body from their home around 1:30pm on Sunday and sent it to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy.
Police later arrested Rubel from Khilgaon in the evening.
Police said the couple had quarrelled often over financial hardship. Rubel worked sometimes as a day labour and was mostly unemployed. Swapna worked as a domestic help. They had been married for 13 years and had two children, who were currently staying with relatives in their village home.
Sub‑inspector Sajjad Hossain said the couple argued late Saturday night and again on Sunday morning. At one point, Rubel allegedly strangled his wife to death. During interrogation, Rubel admitted to the crime
