Two people were killed and at least six others injured when some detached cars of a freight train collided with three vehicles at Khankhanapur rail crossing in Rajbari Sadar upazila on Sunday night.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Malek Sheikh, 46, of Baliyakandi upazila; and Monowar Hossain, 45, of Rajbari Sadar, said police.
The accident occurred around 8:40pm when a freight train carrying oil from Faridpur’s Dhuldi power plant got separated, leaving four wagons behind its engine and first coach.

After the front section crossed the gate, the gateman lifted the barrier, allowing a bus, an auto-rickshaw and a Mahindra to move onto the tracks. The detached wagons then rammed into the vehicles, crushing the auto-rickshaw and Mahindra and partially damaging the bus.
Rajbari Railway Police Sub-Inspector Monirul Islam confirmed the incident, saying locals rescued eight injured persons and sent them to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
Monowar died on the way, while Malek was declared dead on arrival, he said.
The incident will be investigated, said the official.
