Visual artist and poet Suporna Alice Gomes’s first solo painting exhibition, titled ‘Burnt Expressions—the Realms of Fantasy,’ is currently under way at Safiuddin Shilpalay in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.
The four-day exhibition, which was inaugurated on Saturday, features 59 paintings. These include works created with acrylic on canvas and paper, alongside two series of watercolour and coffee on paper.
Suporna stated that the exhibition depicts old memories; all the artworks follow a colour scheme intended to create a burnt expression, resembling rusted old images.
Her ‘coffee on paper’ series primarily portrays renowned figures of Bangladesh, including national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, Rabindranath Tagore, Fakir Lalon Shah, and painter SM Sultan, as well as spiritual and religious figures such as Gautama Buddha.
Her watercolour series depicts flora, nature, and landscapes, while her acrylic series focuses on daily life and floral themes. Through a monochromatic colour palette, her artworks appear both minimal and vibrant.
Artist and poet Suporna Alice Gomes leads a women’s artist group titled Jolkonya.
Since 2017, she has organised group art exhibitions to mark International Women’s Day and International Mother’s Day. She has participated in many group exhibitions, as well as art camps and workshops.
The exhibition will conclude on April 14.
