Gold prices in Bangladesh have been reduced by Tk 6,590 a bhari, bringing the rate of 22-carat gold down to Tk 2,34,855 a bhari (11.664 grams), according to the Bangladesh Jewellers Association.
In a statement issued on Friday morning, the BAJUS said that the revised rates were set in line with the overall market situation, particularly a decline in the price of pure gold on the local market.
The new prices came into effect from 10:00am on the day.
Previously, on March 25, the association had reduced gold prices by Tk 5,482 a bhari, setting the rate of 22-carat gold at Tk 2,41,445.
This latest adjustment continues amid a downward trend on the domestic market, with gold prices falling by more than Tk 42,500 a bhari over the past 25 days.
The decline has been driven largely by a drop in global prices amid geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
However, despite the recent corrections, gold prices remain significantly higher compared to the past year.
In March 2025, the price of 22-carat gold was Tk 1,53,474 a bhari.
Even after the latest reductions, the current rate of Tk 2,34,855 marks an increase of over Tk 80,000 year-on-year.
Under the new pricing structure, 21-carat gold has been set at Tk 2,24,182 a bhari, while 18-carat gold now costs Tk 1,92,164 a bhari.
Traditional gold is priced at Tk 1,56,473 per bhari.
Buyers will also have to pay an additional 5 per cent government-fixed VAT on the sale price, along with a minimum 6 per cent making charge set by BAJUS.
The making charge may vary depending on the design and quality of the jewellery.
So far in 2026, gold prices have been adjusted 47 times in the country, including 26 increases and 21 decreases, reflecting continued volatility in both local and global markets.
In the international market, gold is currently trading at above $4,400 an ounce, down significantly from its peak of over $5,500 earlier this year, when geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainties pushed prices to record highs.
Meanwhile, silver prices remain unchanged.
At present, 22-carat silver is being sold at Tk 5,365 a bhari, while 21-carat silver is priced at Tk 5,132.
The rate for 18-carat silver stands at Tk 4,432 and traditional silver at Tk 3,324 a bhari.
