Several employees at the Jashore call centre of Chaldal, a grocery e-commerce platform, began a strike on Monday morning, alleging they have gone unpaid for the past three months.
The protest took place at the company’s call centre in Jashore IT Park, formerly Sheikh Hasina Software Technology Park, where around 950 people are employed. Workers gathered at the office, halted operations and staged a sit-in to demand payment of outstanding wages.
Md Mahfuzul Kabir, deputy director of the software technology park in Jashore, said, “We are aware of the employees’ protests. We are coordinating with the relevant investors’ association, police, and authorities. We have called some representatives of the protesters to a meeting to explore possible solutions.”
By Monday afternoon, employees said they would continue the protest until their salaries were paid.
Chaldal established its Jashore call centre in 2019, primarily to provide customer service support.
Chaldal's top executives could not be reached for comment despite repeated attempts to establish contact.
