A Bangladeshi expatriate allegedly stabbed his younger brother to death in Italy and later showed the victim’s body to family members in Munshiganj during a video call, the family said today.

The incident reportedly took place in the Italian city of Lecce at 8:00 pm (Italy time) on April 30, following a dispute between the two brothers.

The deceased was identified as Nayan Sheikh, 21, son of Delwar Sheikh from Sonarang area under Tongibari upazila in Munshiganj.

Speaking to reporters, the victim’s mother, Beauty Begum, said her sons -- Humayun Sheikh, 27, and Nayan -- were living in the same home and worked in Lecce.

She said an argument broke out between the two brothers over family matters on April 30.

At one stage, Humayun, in a fit of anger, attacked Nayan with a knife, leaving him dead on the spot, she said.

“After the incident, Humayun contacted us in Bangladesh via a video call, confessed to the killing, and showed us Nayan’s bloodied body,” she added.

Quoting the relatives living in Italy, the victim’s family said local police in Italy arrested Humayun after being informed of the incident.

Contacted, Monirul Islam Dablu, officer-in-charge (OC) of Tongibari Police Station, said they had received reports of the murder.

He added that the victim’s wife had earlier filed a complaint over family issues. However, since the incident took place outside Bangladesh, they have no jurisdiction to take action.
