Two people were killed after the motorcycles they were riding collided head-on in the Pateshwari Bazar area of Kurigram Sadar upazila early today.

The accident occurred around 11:00pm. The victims died at Rangpur Medical College Hospital around 2:00am today, said Kamal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kurigram Sadar Police Station.

The deceased were identified as Hira Mia, 28, son of Motaleb Mia of Jhakuabari village under Bhitorbond Union in Nageshwari upazila, and Safiur Rahman Shuvo, 23, son of Mizanur Rahman Majnu of Maheshwar village under Bidyananda Union in Rajarhat upazila.

The OC said Hira was travelling from Kurigram towards Nageshwari, while Shuvo was returning from Nageshwari towards Rajarhat when their motorcycles collided head-on.

Hearing the crash, locals rushed to the scene, rescued the injured and took them to Kurigram General Hospital.

As their condition deteriorated while undergoing treatment there, Hira and Shuvo were referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition. After they were taken there, on-duty doctors examined them and declared both dead.
