A World Bank delegation led by Bangladesh and Bhutan division director Jean Pesme paid a courtesy call on agriculture and fisheries and livestock minister Mohammad Aminur Rashid at the conference room of the agriculture ministry in Dhaka on Sunday.

Aminur Rashid said that an initiative has been taken to introduce Farmer Card for farmers, which will be implemented across the country in phases, said a press release.

This year, the programme will be launched experimentally in 11 blocks across various districts and will gradually be expanded nationwide.

This card will ensure the protection of farmers’ interests, increase production, and guarantee sustainable development of the sector, he added.

World Bank representatives expressed interest in increasing investment in the agricultural sector, particularly in supplying agricultural inputs, processing agricultural products, and cooperating in market development. The minister welcomed the World Bank’s proposal.

During the meeting, representatives of the ministry and the World Bank expressed optimism about further strengthening mutual cooperation for the sustainable development of the agricultural sector and improving the living standards of farmers.
