Police this afternoon detained a man for allegedly raping a 16-year-old intellectually disabled girl in Chattogram’s Chaktai.

The detainee is Jamal alias Jaker, 32, from Bhola, said Chattogram Metropolitan Police (South) Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahmudul Hasan Mamun.

Before police took the accused into custody, locals attempted to beat him, but officers intervened and prevented the attack.

The rape incident allegedly took place last night at Misti Goli of Bhera Market in Chaktai.

The ADC said, “Jamal is a neighbour of the victim. He lured the victim with a cold drink and later raped her. Later, the victim disclosed the matter to her mother.”

“Following the incident, the mother and relatives detained Jamal today and tried to beat him. Upon receiving information, police rushed to the spot and detained the accused from the mob,” he added.

The victim was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital’s One-Stop Crisis Centre for a medical examination, said the ADC.
