Health and family welfare minister Sardar M Shakhawat Husain on Wednesday said that the suspended services at Kushtia 250-bed General Hospital, including closed wards and diagnostic facilities, would be restored soon through coordinated administrative measures.

The minister made the remarks during an inspection of the hospital, where he reviewed healthcare delivery, visited multiple departments and spoke with patients and their attendants about service conditions.

He also gathered first-hand feedback from patients regarding treatment quality, service delays and infrastructural limitations.

During the visit, the minister expressed concern over several operational shortcomings, including the closure of certain hospital wards and interruptions in diagnostic services.  ‘Immediate steps will be taken to reactivate all suspended services.’

He also noted that some physicians were absent during scheduled duty hours and identified deficiencies in the hospital’s drainage system, instructing the hospital administration and relevant authorities to address the issues without delay.

Strengthening accountability at all levels of healthcare management is essential to improve service delivery, he said.

Shakhawat said that the visit to Kushtia General Hospital was part of a broader government initiative to inspect healthcare institutions across the country, including district hospitals, medical college hospitals and upazila health complexes.

Kushtia Medical College Hospital is expected to be fully operational within the next three months, he announced, mentioning that it would significantly improve specialised healthcare services in the region.
