Rail communication between Sylhet and the rest of the country was restored this afternoon, nearly 18 hours after several wagons of an oil-carrying train derailed near Montola Railway Station in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj.

Md Abu Hanif Pasha, assistant executive engineer of Akhaura Railway Junction, confirmed the development to this correspondent.

He said the derailed wagons were removed from the tracks around 3:30 pm, restoring communication with the rest of the country from Sylhet.

Earlier, five oil tanker wagons along with a guard brake of the Chattogram-Sylhet-bound train went off the tracks around 9:30pm on Wednesday, disrupting train movement on the route. One of the derailed wagons fell into a canal beside the track near a bridge.
