Leaders and activists of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and its affiliated organisations staged a rally in Chattogram city today, protesting alleged activities by the Awami League, whose political activities are currently banned.

The programme was organised in the afternoon at the Chattogram Press Club premises by the newly announced Chattogram metropolitan committee of NCP. Activists of Jubo Shakti, Chhatra Shakti and Sramik Shakti also joined the programme in solidarity.

The rally was presided over by Chattogram city NCP Convener Mir Mohammad Shoaib and conducted by Member Secretary Arif Moinuddin.

Shoaib alleged that forces linked to "fascism" had recently attempted to resume activities in different forms.

"Fascism was buried in July (2024). There is no room for fascist politics to return. However, we are noticing attempts by its collaborators to become active again, which has created fresh anger among students and people in Chattogram," he said.

Arif said those hoping for the return of "killers and fascists" will not succeed.

Other speakers said no covert or overt activities by Awami League would be tolerated in Chattogram. They warned that any attempt to create unrest would be met with resistance from students and activists on the streets.

After the rally, participants brought out a procession from the press club premises. The procession marched through several areas of the port city with participants chanting slogans against autocracy and fascism.
