A car ploughed into people on a street in the eastern German city of Leipzig on Monday, leaving at least two dead and several injured, authorities said.

Leipzig mayor Burkhard Jung confirmed the deaths, adding nothing was known about the motive of the vehicle driver. Police said the driver had been arrested and no longer posed a danger.
