LafargeHolcim Bangladesh PLC (LHB) has launched a nationwide award programme to recognise outstanding engineering achievements and innovations in Bangladesh's construction sector.
The ‘Holcim Structural Excellence Awards 2026’ was launched at a city hotel on Wednesday, with the programme set to culminate in a gala event in January 2027.
Iqbal Chowdhury, chief executive officer of LHB, inaugurated the programme in the presence of civil engineers, academics and industry professionals, says a press release.
The awards aim to recognise achievements in structural innovation, sustainable construction and engineering excellence, according to the company.
The programme features four categories — High Performing Concrete Structure, Advanced Concrete Technology & Circularity, Legendary Structural Engineer and Next Generation/Visionary Design.
A single winner will be selected in each of the first three categories, while 10 emerging engineering professionals will be recognised under the Next Generation/Visionary Design category.
One of the category winners will also receive the Grand Winner title.
The competition will be conducted in five phases, beginning with the launch and call for submissions, followed by submission, shortlisting, jury screening and final selection, and winner selection at the gala event.
Participants will be required to submit technical dossiers, structural drawings, sustainability impact reports and project verification documents. Entries will undergo preliminary screening before being evaluated by an independent external jury panel.
The jury panel includes Dr Raquib Ahsan, professor of civil engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET); Major General (retd) Nizam Ahmed, executive director of Ananta Group; Engr Abdullah Al Hossain Chowdhury (Rizvi), managing director and lead design engineer of Inter Space Limited; Engr A.K.M. Saiful Bari, managing director of SB Consultant Ltd; and Lt Col Dr Khondaker Sakil Ahmed, associate professor of civil engineering at Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST).
At the launch, Mr Chowdhury said engineers were playing a key role in Bangladesh's infrastructure development and that the award programme would encourage innovation and sustainable construction practices.
The company said interested professionals can submit their projects through the award programme's website or LHB's website.
The gala event in Dhaka is scheduled for January 2027, when the winners will be formally recognised.
