Unidentified assailants on Friday afternoon stabbed a Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader in front of his house in the capital’s Mohammadpur area, leaving him seriously injured.

The victim, identified as Nurul Islam, 55, is a senior joint general secretary of the party’s Mohammadpur Ward 33 unit.


According to the police, six unidentified miscreants came on two motorcycles after Jumma prayers and stabbed Nurul Islam near his house at Satmasjid Housing before fleeing the scene.

He suffered serious injuries on the left side of his face, shoulder and left hand.

His relatives rescued him and rushed to a local hospital to be later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment as his condition deteriorated.

He is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital.

On information, the police visited the crime scene and collected CCTV footage from there, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner for Mohammadpur zone Md Jewel Rana.

‘We are analysing the CCTV footage to identify the attackers and operations are under way to arrest them,’ said Jewel, adding that the victim’s family was yet to file a complaint till writing the report at 9:30pm.
