Theatre troupe Actomania staged its third production titled ‘When We Dead Awaken’ at the main hall of National Theatre at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital Dhaka on Wednesday.

Premiered on Tuesday at the same venue, ‘When We Dead Awaken’ was written by Norwegian dramatist Henrik Ibsen. The play was translated into Bangla by Shahidul Mamun and directed by Nowrin Sazzad.

The three-act symbolic play explores the conflict between life and art. The play revolves around a famed sculptor who is successful in art but is living a lifeless life.

Kamruzzaman Tapu, MHS Laban, Nowrin Sazzad Bristy, Marcia Shawon, Sagar Barua Shan, Fakir Biplob and Abhijit Saha Rudra, among others, portrayed different characters in the play.

The set of the production was designed by Talha Zubaer, while Mokhlesur Rahman designed the lighting and Saima Akter designed the costumes for the play.

Mamdudur Rahman Mukto arranged music and Rehnuma Tabassum designed props for the play. The play was choreographed by Nafisa Nabat Chowdhury.

‘The play shed light on relationships and liberation. We chose the play which also portrayed the internal imprisonment of artists and the deadly pain of failing to create their desired artworks,’ said Nowrin Sazzad Bristy.
