More than half of the humanities students under the nine general education boards did not pass this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations, according to Education Ministry statistics.
The pass rate among humanities students stood at 48.74 percent, compared with 80.64 percent in science and 64.29 percent in business studies.
Of the 617,885 humanities examinees, 301,174 passed.
In science, 457,188 of the 566,958 examinees passed, while 141,248 of the 219,696 business studies students were successful.
Among the nine boards, Dhaka recorded the highest pass rate in humanities at 55.62 percent, while Dinajpur had the lowest at 38.75 percent.
Jashore recorded the highest science pass rate at 86.90 percent, followed by Dhaka at 85.90 percent.
Overall, 899,610 of the 1,404,539 examinees under the nine general education boards passed, putting the overall pass rate at 64.05 percent.
