Two people were killed and another injured after a truck hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on a regional highway in Sirajganj Sadar upazila today.

The victims Thakur Hawlader, 70, of Kalinja village in Raiganj upazila, and auto-rickshaw driver Ashik Ahmed, 35, of Kuthirchar village in Kamarkhanda upazila, said police.

The accident happened around 5:00am at Bohuti Bottola on the Sirajganj–Nolka regional highway under Shialkol union.

According to police and locals, Thakur and his son Bishnu Hawlader were travelling towards the town from Bhadraghat market in the auto-rickshaw. When they reached Bohuti Bottola, an unidentified speeding truck rammed the vehicle from behind, killing Ashik and Thakur on the spot.

Locals rescued Bishnu and admitted him to Sirajganj Medical College Hospital.

Relatives of the deceased arrived at the scene shortly after and took the bodies home.

Rakibul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station, confirmed the incident, adding that the injured passenger remains under treatment.
