The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a detailed traffic guideline ahead of the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected lawmakers and members of the cabinet, scheduled to be held tomorrow (February 17, 2026) at the parliament building.
Due to the expected large gathering in and around the parliament area, vehicular movement will be restricted from Khejur Bagan Crossing to Manik Mia Avenue and Lake Road from July Smriti Museum (previously Gano Bahaban) to Urojahaj Crossing.
DMP has requested all vehicles to avoid Manik Mia Avenue and Lake Road and follow the diversion instructions to prevent traffic congestion from 8:00am to 7:00pm tomorrow.
To ease temporary inconvenience caused by traffic control measures, the DMP Traffic Division has arranged diversions to keep traffic flowing as follows:
Mirpur Road to Farmgate via Manik Mia Avenue
Vehicles coming from the north on Mirpur Road towards Farmgate/Sonargaon will proceed via Bangabandhu International Conference Center-Bijoy Sarani Crossing, taking a right turn towards Farmgate.
Dhanmondi to Farmgate
Vehicles coming from Dhanmondi 27 will move through Asad Gate to Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre–Bijoy Sarani Crossing (right turn)–Farmgate Crossing.
Asad Gate to Farmgate Crossing
Vehicles from Asad Gate will take a left turn towards July Smriti Museum crossing, then proceed via Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre –Bijoy Sarani Crossing (right turn)–Farmgate Crossing.
Elevated Expressway/Indira Road to Dhanmondi
Vehicles coming from the Elevated Expressway or Indira Road will take a right turn at Khejur Bagan Crossing, then proceed via Urojahaj Crossing– Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre (left turn)–Asad Gate–towards Dhanmondi.
Mirpur Road to Dhanmondi
The southbound vehicles from Mirpur Road will travel via Shyamoli–Shishu Mela–July Smriti Museum–Asad Gate and then straight towards Dhanmondi 27.
For Elevated Expressway users
To avoid congestion during the oath-taking programme, commuters have been advised to use the FDC (Hatirjheel) ramp instead of the Farmgate exit ramp of the Elevated Expressway.
The police sought the wholehearted cooperation of Dhaka residents in this regard.
