Bangladesh has expressed sorrow over the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a “targeted attack”.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said this is a violation of international law and norms.

It extended heartfelt condolences to the brotherly people of Iran.

“Bangladesh believes that conflict brings no solution and only dialogue, mutual respect and adherence to the international law can resolve disputes,” the ministry said.

Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader since 1989 and sworn enemy of the West, was killed in the opening salvo of a massive US and Israeli attack that extended into a second day Sunday, as the two powers seek to topple the Islamic republic.
