Family says the infant fell into the bucket while playing nearby

An 11-month-old baby died after falling into a water-filled bucket at her home in Kalmakanda upazila of Netrokona this morning.

The deceased was identified as Nadia Akhter, the only daughter of Nabab Mia and Shova Akhter, said Md Siddiq Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kalmakanda Police Station.

According to family members and police, the incident occurred around 7:00am while Nadia's mother was busy preparing breakfast in the kitchen. During this time, the child, who was playing nearby, moved close to a bucket filled with water kept inside the room and fell into it.

Family members quickly rescued the child and took her to a nearby hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.

The OC said police personnel were sent to the hospital after receiving the information. As the family lodged no complaint, the body was handed over to them without a post-mortem examination.
