The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has formally written to the International Cricket Council (ICC), extending support to Bangladesh’s position in the ongoing controversy over the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
With the ICC set to take a final decision on Bangladesh’s participation later today, PCB’s intervention has added fresh momentum to an issue that has remained unresolved for weeks.
According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, the PCB’s communication was sent directly to the ICC and copied to members of the ICC Board. In the letter, the PCB supported the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) refusal to send its national team to India for the tournament, citing security-related concerns.
The timing of the move has drawn attention, as the ICC has called a Board meeting on Wednesday to deliberate on the matter.
Despite PCB’s backing, the ICC is understood to be firm on its stance. The global governing body has repeatedly conveyed that it will not alter the tournament schedule and has instead offered Bangladesh the option of playing their matches at a neutral venue in Sri Lanka.
This proposal has been discussed in several meetings between ICC and BCB, including the most recent discussions held in Dhaka over the weekend.
Neither side has shifted its position so far. The ICC has set January 21 as the deadline to reach a final decision, allowing at least 15 days of preparation time for a replacement team should Bangladesh withdraw from the competition.
PCB’s involvement has also reignited speculation that Pakistan may be willing to host Bangladesh’s World Cup matches and that Pakistan’s own participation could be reviewed depending on the outcome of the situation. However, no such claims have been officially confirmed by PCB sources.
