A man lost both of his legs after jumping under a moving train in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah on Sunday.

The incident occurred at around 6:00pm near Zero Point area, close to Mobarakganj Railway Station.

The injured man was identified as Farid Hossain, 30, of Kaliganj.

According to eyewitnesses, Farid had been wandering near the railway tracks in the afternoon. When the Rupsha Express, travelling from Chilahati to Khulna, reached the spot, he suddenly jumped beneath the moving train. Although he survived, both of his legs were severed in the incident.

Shahajan Ali, station master of Mobarakganj Railway Station, said after receiving the information, a team from Kaliganj Fire Service rushed to the site, rescued the injured, and took him to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex.

On-duty physician at the facility, Dr Sumaiya Sharmin Sumi, said the victim was brought to the hospital with both legs severed. As his condition was critical, he was given first aid before being referred to Jashore Medical College Hospital for advanced medical care.
