"Bhasane Ujan", the 25th production of Vivekananda Theatre, is adapted from Fyodor Dostoevsky's renowned short story "The Gentle Spirit". The stage adaptation was written by Apurba Kumar Kundu and directed by Shubhashish Dutta Tanmoy. The monodrama features a solo performance by Md Ershad Hasan.
The play explores themes of guilt, love, loneliness and moral conflict through the inner journey of a man confronting loss and self-realisation. Drawing on Dostoevsky's signature psychological intensity, the production examines the complexities of human conscience and the fragile boundaries between goodness, regret and redemption.

Director Shubhashish Dutta Tanmoy described the production as a meeting point between Dostoevsky's profound psychological exploration, Apurba Kumar Kundu's sensitive adaptation and Ershad Hasan's commanding stage presence.
"It was a challenging production for us, but one that we have successfully realised," he said.
Playwright Apurba Kumar Kundu noted that the drama is built around a central question: whether a person who chooses goodness can ultimately remain good. According to him, Ershad Hasan's performance has brought that question to audiences with greater clarity and emotional resonance.
