Actor Jesse Eisenberg stunned audiences during his recent appearance on NBC's "Today" show with an unexpected and deeply personal revelation.
While co-anchor Craig Melvin commended the "Now You See Me: Now You Don't" star for his past participation in blood donation drives – including one held at the "Today" studio – Eisenberg casually announced that he plans to take his generosity a step further.
"Yeah, that's true," he said. "I'm actually donating my kidney in six weeks. I really am."
As the hosts reacted in disbelief, Eisenberg smiled and added, "I don't know why. I got bitten by the blood donation bug. Yeah, I love it."
The actor explained that his upcoming procedure, scheduled for mid-December, is an "altruistic donation," meaning he will be donating his kidney to a complete stranger. "I'm so excited to do it," he said.
In a later interview, Eisenberg shared that he had first considered kidney donation nearly a decade ago but never received a response from the organisation he contacted at the time.
"It's basically a safe procedure and something that's greatly needed," Eisenberg noted. "I think once people understand that, they'll see it's an easy decision to make if they have the time and willingness."
