A man was stabbed to death allegedly following a dispute over Tk 5,000-6,000 in Goalanda upazila of Rajbari this morning.
The deceased was identified as Shariful Islam Hira, 40, from Bahadurpur in Goalanda. He lived at his in-laws' close to Torai Mor-Kazipara of Goalanda municipality.
The incident occurred around 9:00am in Torai Mor, police said.
Md Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Goalanda Ghat Police Station, Shariful was involved in an altercation with Kamrul Hossain of Kumrakandi Mallikpara village, over Tk 5,000-6,000 that Kamrul allegedly owed him.
At one point, Kamrul allegedly stabbed Shariful in the right side of his chest with a knife, leaving him critically injured.
Locals rescued Shariful and took him to Goalanda Upazila Health Complex, where an on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Kamrul fled the scene but was arrested around 3:00pm following a police drive, said police.
OC Shafiqul said Shariful's wife, Shamsur Nahar Mukta, filed a case against Kamrul as the sole accused.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Rajbari General Hospital for autopsy, he added.
