A 12-member committee, led by Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, has been formed to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of donations at the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) in Sylhet.

The decision was announced today following a meeting on the management and development of the shrine, held at the Sylhet Circuit House in the morning. The commerce minister chaired the meeting.

The meeting came amid public debate over the locking of donation boxes at the Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) shrine by former Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Sarwoer Alam.

The committee has been given one month to propose a financial management framework for the shrine.

Speaking after the meeting, the minister said all stakeholders discussed ways to reach a practical solution regarding the shrine's development, donation management, and overall operations.

"All sides have reached a consensus on ensuring transparency in financial management, and the shrine authority has also agreed," he said.

The committee includes Abdul Quiyum Chowdhury, administrator of Sylhet City Corporation (SCC); Rezaul Hasan Koyes Ludhi, administrator of the Sylhet Development Authority (SDA); Abul Kaher Shamim, administrator of the Sylhet Zila Parishad; and Mashiur Rahman, divisional commissioner of Sylhet. The Sylhet deputy commissioner will serve as the committee's secretary.
