Actor Sadia Islam Mou, though not a regular on screen, often appears in special television projects tied to national occasions. This year, she returns to television with a Victory Day special drama titled "Doctor Bari", set to air on Channel i on December 16 at 7:50pm.
The drama is directed by Arun Chowdhury and based on a story by Faridur Reza Sagar, with the screenplay adapted by Raju Alim. Continuing a long-standing tradition, Chowdhury has been directing Victory Day dramas based on Sagar's stories every year since 2012.
Set during the 1971 Liberation War, "Doctor Bari" tells the story of how freedom fighters receive shelter and assistance from a household in rural Bangladesh. The narrative centres on Mallika, the daughter of a village doctor, who secretly shelters two freedom fighters without her father's knowledge. When miscreants threaten the doctor, demanding that the fighters be handed over, fear grips the household. Mallika, however, persuades her father to wait one more day, triggering a series of dramatic events.
Mou plays the role of Mallika, while Naresh Bhuiyan portrays her father. Ahsan Habib Nasim appears as one of the freedom fighters. The drama was shot between December 8 and 10 in Nawabganj, Dhaka, at an old house chosen to reflect the atmosphere of the wartime period.
Speaking about the project, Mou said, "I have done very few works related to the Liberation War. It felt special to be part of such a beautiful story. I tried my best to do justice to the character."
Director Arun Chowdhury said the drama focuses on a single household during the war. "We tried to recreate the atmosphere of 1971 as authentically as possible. We shot in an old house in Nawabganj to maintain that mood. If the audience connects with the story, our effort will be worthwhile," he said.
Meanwhile, Mou is also awaiting the release of her first web film. Based on Kazi Anwar Hossain's novel "Artonad", the film—tentatively titled "Gahin Atol"— been directed by Aka Reza Galib. In the film, Mou plays a mother whose life spirals into chaos after she accidentally kills her daughter's secret lover and desperately tries to conceal the crime. The story revolves entirely around her character.
