Following the derailment, large numbers of local residents gathered at the site, and some attempted to loot fuel from the overturned wagons.

Upon receiving the information, members of the BGB and other law enforcement agencies promptly arrived and brought the situation under control.

According to railway sources, the fuel-laden train was travelling from Chattogram to Sylhet.

At around 9:30 pm, while passing Montola Railway Station in Madhabpur, six of its wagons derailed, one of which fell into a roadside ditch. This incident caused the suspension of rail communication between Sylhet and the rest of the country.
