Prime Minister’s Adviser on Education, Primary and Mass Education Mahdi Amin on Friday underscored the need for expanding overseas employment opportunities for Bangladeshi women through safe and dignified migration.
He made the remarks when a delegation from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), led by its Chief of Mission Laura Tom Bond, paid a courtesy call on him at the Prime Minister's Office, BSS reported citing an official release.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation to further strengthen migration management in Bangladesh, expand opportunities for safe labour migration and ensure greater protection for migrants.
Mahdi Amin, also the spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, stressed the importance of exploring new overseas labour markets for Bangladeshi workers, particularly in the Middle East and other emerging international destinations.
He also highlighted the need for coordinated initiatives to increase the deployment of skilled workers abroad, improve workers' skills and develop a workforce aligned with the demands of the global labour market.
He laid special emphasis on increasing overseas employment opportunities for women through safe and dignified migration.
The meeting also discussed ways to make the migration process safer, more orderly, transparent and affordable by ensuring technology-driven and accountable services and developing a more accessible migration system for outbound workers.
The IOM delegation briefed the adviser on the organisation's ongoing activities in Bangladesh and expressed interest in expanding technical and technological support for the government's migration-related initiatives.
The delegation also assured continued cooperation in improving migration management, providing modern services for migrant workers and supporting the implementation of government initiatives in the sector.
The meeting also reviewed preparations for the launch of Bangladesh’s National Action Plan under the Global Compact for Migration (GCM), which is being implemented in partnership with the Government of Bangladesh.
