Chittagong Hill Tracts affairs minister Dipen Dewan on Monday resigned from his post on health grounds.
He submitted his resignation letter to the prime minister, citing prolonged physical illness and difficulties in carrying out official duties.
The prime minister’s press wing confirmed New Age that the registration letter of Dipen Dewan was accepted.
In the resignation letter, Dipen Dewan said that he had been suffering from various physical complications since assuming office as minister of the Chittagong Hill Tracts affairs ministry.
He said that his deteriorating health condition had created multiple obstacles in performing the ministry’s regular responsibilities effectively.
The minister further said that, in the interest of maintaining the pace of the government’s development and administrative activities, he considered it necessary to step down from his current position.
‘I humbly request that my resignation letter be accepted,’ he wrote in the letter addressed to the prime minister.
Dipen Dewan is a member of parliament from Rangamati Hill District.
