The High Court has returned two anticipatory bail petitions filed by actor Riaz Uddin Ahamed Siddique in separate cases lodged with Dhaka’s Jatrabari and Shahbagh police stations over incidents during the July Uprising, removing the applications from its cause list.

The bench of Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher passed the order on Thursday.

Riaz had sought anticipatory bail in the two cases, which came up for hearing on the court’s cause list on Thursday.

Senior lawyer Motahar Hossain Saju represented Riaz, while Deputy Attorney General Md Monzurul Alam Sujan appeared for the state.

Riaz was present in court during the bail hearing, Sujan told bdnews24.com.

“Riaz had two anticipatory bail applications in separate cases filed with Jatrabari and Shahbagh police stations,” he said.

“The court did not grant him bail. It returned the two applications and removed them from the cause list.”
