The government is focused on dismantling long-standing market syndicates responsible for artificially inflating prices, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said today.

Speaking at a meeting with members of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) at the Ministry of Home Affairs, the minister highlighted the government's priority to address both long-term goals and the short-term expectations of the public.

Salahuddin emphasised that controlling law and order while maintaining a stable and conducive environment for business is a key focus of the government.

"One of our top priorities is to regulate the prices of essential goods and maintain normal market conditions,” he said.

He added that the government is actively working to prevent price hikes caused by artificial market manipulation and to dismantle syndicates that have existed for 10 to 15 years in various sectors.

In addition, the minister outlined plans to ensure business security through creative and innovative approaches rather than relying on traditional methods.

Salahuddin also addressed the need for restoring discipline in the transport sector.

He announced that measures would be taken to eliminate extortion and address other issues within the sector. The initiative will begin in larger cities and divisions, with the full cooperation of the administration, police, and other relevant stakeholders being crucial for its success.

During the meeting, DCCI President Taskeen Ahmed called for the minister's support in improving law and order, combating extortion, and restoring discipline in the transport sector.

He expressed hope for effective cooperation from the home ministry in tackling these challenges.

DCCI Senior Vice President Rajib H. Chowdhury, Vice President Md Saleem Solaiman, Secretary Dr AKM Asaduzzaman Patwari and other senior officials were also present at the meeting.
