The Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) has tightened security across the country ahead of August 15, citing the risk of sabotage and disruption by organisations whose activities are banned, extremist groups, and criminals.

In a press release today, Rab said each battalion had assessed potential threats and drawn up security plans for its respective area.

Security has been tightened at sensitive locations, while intelligence surveillance has been intensified over the activities and movements of organisations whose activities are banned, extremist groups, and individuals who may attempt to create unrest.

Rab said it would operate under its own command while coordinating, where necessary, with the Special Security Force, local administration, and other law enforcement and intelligence agencies.

Plainclothes intelligence teams have been deployed along routes leading to and from venues. Rab has also increased information collection on suspected individuals and members of organisations, whose activities remain banned.

Additional personnel have been deployed at and around venues to prevent untoward incidents and stop the infiltration of criminals or extremist groups.

The force has also strengthened cyber patrolling to prevent rumours and misinformation on social media. It warned of immediate action against those attempting to create disorder by posting misleading content, comments, or images.

Rab’s bomb disposal unit has been kept ready to respond if explosives or suspected materials are found.

The elite force urged citizens to remain vigilant and immediately inform law enforcement agencies of any suspicious person, object, or activity.

Rab said the measures are aimed at maintaining law and order, ensuring public safety, and preventing criminal or subversive activities around the August 15 programmes.
